Kay and I have decided to bring a doula into our fold. She has actually been a member of our team for quite some time already, providing acupuncture support to Kay throughout our fertility journey and she is so good that we are making our relationship official. There was a date and everything!
On the date, met the whole team of doulas from Women's Balance Health. They are lovely people who truly want to empower their clients to have the birthing experience they want; not the one their doctor or society dictates is proper. So that means, if we really want a C-section with all the drugs a girl and foetus can safely handle, they will help us to make that happen. If we want a natural birth in a water pool, they will help us make that happen too. They are a calming presence and support for us in the birthing room and will work to educate us beforehand to ensure we know what are options are and what their benefits and risks may be.

I am really looking forward to our doula's help and input. It seems like after the journey of fertility and pregnancy, birth can be considered just a means to an end: Give us our baby, already! But, it will be nice to take our time, have some intention about what we do and consider options to ensure we know what birth can be.

And after all those good intentions, we will brace ourselves for the chaos!
Then you, with looks divinely mild,
In every heavenly feature smiled,
And asked what new complaints I made,
And why I called you to my aid?

Having a doula on your team sounds like a great plan. Let's face it, childbirth is scary but having the right team to advocate on mamas behalf can turn it into a beautiful and empowering experience. Even just having someone beside you saying that what you are experiencing is normal, and offering suggestions to progress labour can help!
